- Q. Is any of my share data sent across the internet?
A. No - all processing is done within your browser.- Q. Are the results accurate?
A. They should be for most cases, however it is up to you to check them. ERI (Excess Reportable Income) is not included in the calculations. HMRC do require you to report any ERI (e.g. notional annual dividend payments) and add any ERI to the cost of the shares when making a disposal. Most people buy Distributng ETFs so that the dividends are reported by the brokers in their annual reports.- Q. How can i check the results?
A. Try one of the other calculators and compare the results. See the 'Other Calculators' page. Note that HMRC suggest you should not apply rounding to individual trades but the Total Cost and Proceeds numbers can be rounded.- Q. How can I convert all my .csv files to cgtcalculator.com format? I have four .csv files for 4 years and I want to use cgtcalculator.com.
A. Just use the UKCGT calculator to paste in or load all your .csv files, click Calculate if necessary, then click the button to go to cgtcalculator com and paste in from the clipboard.- Q. How can I find out what ERI notional dividend or interest) was paid out on my ETFs?
A. Try my ERI Lookup page. Paste in your trades (in cgtcalculator.com format) and follow the instructions. Keep a spreadsheet for ticker, qty, held/reporting date, distribution date, ERI/share (£), income/dividend. If you only have distributing ETFs, this usually adds up to just a few £, but if you held accumulating ETFs, then the ERI can be £100's and may substantially affect the amount of tax due. If you save the ERI results as a .csv file, you can then fill in the missing data (ERI value) for each HMRC approved offshore ETF holding. You can paste ERI dividends into the calculator data to include ERI in the calculations. If you are a basic rate tax payer this can reduce the amount of tax you pay as dividend tax is currently much less than CG tax for basic rate tax payers.
